Year 3 - Lister Class
Welcome to Lister's class page.
Terms 5 & 6
Welcome to the Summer Term
Terms 5 and 6 have the theme ‘Go Green’. Lister Class will be studying Rainforests and sustainability of natural resources around the world. We will consider the implications of recycling in order to save our planet and how we can re-use items to give them a new lease of life.
Our Literacy learning will be focused on the texts: 'The Vanishing Rainforest' by Richard Platt and 'The Great Kapok Tree' by Lynne Cherry. In addition to these texts, we will be embracing our inner ‘David Attenborough,’ accessing the topic through report writing and presentations. Mrs Newman will also be studying poetry from all around the world on Mondays.
Spelling remains a key focus this term and the children will continue to have regular testing on the statutory word lists in various ways. Any support that can be offered at home will be greatly appreciated.
In Maths, we will begin this term with revisiting our learning of fractions. We will also be consolidating our learning of money and have a strong focus on interpreting data and all data handling topics. This learning will be supported within our Science sessions too.
Wednesday afternoons will be filled with outdoor learning in the community. We will be undertaking our Science unit of learning on ‘plants in the community' and focus our attentions on our surroundings and how they are always changing. In order to support our ambitious aims, we do appreciate the help of volunteers to make these plans possible. Should you feel that you can offer any time at all please let me know.
Please continue to save aluminium cans, milk bottles and cardboard boxes for Lister class. They will be transformed into sculptures in Term 6. We need as many as possible.
I am in the process of organising the overnight trip to Groombridge for Lister Class and the proposed date for this is Wednesday 26th July. More details will follow in the coming weeks so please put the date in the diary and await further news.
Our class email is firstname.lastname@example.org
This class email will be used to update you with information regarding the learning taking place in class each week, with ideas on how you can support learning at home.
You can also use this to contact me regarding your child’s learning. Please note that while we endeavour to answer emails as soon as possible, we will not be able to answer these at the weekend or evenings/holidays.
Any other enquiries e.g changes to collection arrangements, lost property, lunches, should be sent to the school office.
Please keep checking the school website, especially the school calendar for upcoming events.
Many thanks for your ongoing support and here’s to a fantastic Summer term.
