Year 4 - Cavell Class

Welcome to Cavell's class page.

Term 5

Due to the short duration of Term 4, our theme for the next two terms is ‘Going Green’. This will incorporate a study on renewable and non-renewable energy sources, climate change and ways in which we can reduce our carbon footprint for the future. We will come to understand the term ‘sustainability’, particularly in relation to food, and have a go at growing our own tomatoes!

The theme also coincides with our Science unit on electricity. Within this unit of work, we will construct simple electrical circuits including those that implement switches, as well as setting up our own investigations to determine some common conductors and insulators.

Within the context of literacy, there will be an opportunity for discussion and debate amongst the children. We will develop our persuasive writing techniques by exploring media campaigns, as well as tackling some environmental poetry.

In Maths this term, the work will focus around shape and measure. Our key objectives will be: calculating area and perimeters, identifying angles and lines of symmetry, plotting coordinates and describing movements on a grid as translations.

I look forward to sharing the outcomes with you in the weekly updates!
