Vision for History

At The Wells Free School, we believe that a high-quality history education will help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. It should inspire pupil’s curiosity to know more about the past. Teaching should equip pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. Through our history curriculum, children will learn through three different lenses, these being well-being and social change, historical figures and settlement and invasion.

Our main aims are to:

  • Develop effective use of assessment in history
  • Develop confidence in evaluating the reliability of primary and secondary sources
  • Develop links and connections between units to secure chronological awareness.
