Reception – Nightingale Class
Welcome to Nightingale’s class page.
Welcome to the Nightingale Class Page.
This page will be updated every term to give you an insight into what the term will have in store, including learning opportunities, topics to be covered and chances for parental involvement.
Our theme across the school for this term is Fabulous Fables, which will see us looking at traditional tales as well as many short fables. We will talk about the difference between tales that have been told and re-told for many years and short fables involving animals or plants that end with a moral.
Therefore, our Book of the Week this term will include:
- o Little Red Riding Hood,
- o Goldilocks,
- o The Tortoise and the Hare,
- o The Boy who cried Wolf,
- o The Lion and the Mouse.
Please let me know if you have anything you would like to share with us related to these books, e.g. costumes, photos, small world figures, old copies of the books etc.
Phonics this term will be focusing on consolidating skills for reading. Recognition of the phonemes is a strong point, now we need to practice blending in order to read words. If you would like to help your child consolidate these skills www.phonicsplay.co.uk have some great games that your children are very familiar with.
Mathematics Mastery is proving to be a very engaging, fun and well liked program that the children are really enjoying. The repetitive phrases, songs and hands on activities allow the children to apply and explain their mathematical knowledge on a daily basis.
This term we will be focusing on shape and pattern and numbers to 20. We will also be introducing Addition and Subtraction. I will add games and websites to help with this into my weekly emails.
As you are aware, learning continues outside the classroom, therefore please keep us informed of your child’s ‘wow’ moments and learning at home and elsewhere.
We are introducing Welly Walks into a weekly timetable this term. The aim of the walks is to provide the children with opportunities to explore and experience nature, seasons, animals and plant life in the environment around them.
As weather is a huge part of Understanding the World, we will be going out come rain or shine, so please ensure your child has a pair of wellies and a suitable waterproof coat every Monday so they can fully take part in all activities.
Our class email is Nightingale@thewellsfreeschool.co.uk
Please keep an eye out for my weekly emails, these will give you a brief overview of what the children have been learning each week along with ideas as to how to help and encourage your children at home.
You can also use this address to contact me regarding your child’s learning. Please note that while we endeavour to answer emails as soon as possible, we will not be able to answer these at the weekend or evenings/holidays.
Any other enquiries i.e. changes to collection arrangements, lost property, lunches, will need to be sent to the school office.
